President Donald Trump is deeply unpopular among Americans as his administration's long-sought Middle East peace remains elusive.

Americans gave Trump poor ratings across several recent polls, reaching

as high as a 64% disapproval rating in an Aug. 14-17 Reuters/Ipsos poll. Similarly, Americans gave Trump a 61% disapproval rating in an Aug. 14-17 Economist/YouGov poll. In Michigan, an Aug. 18 Civiqs poll reported a 59% disapproval rating for Trump.

Real Clear Politics, which aggregates data from numerous polls, shows Trump's current average approval rating is 19.2 percentage points below his average disapproval rating — a similar trend to early August.

As the U.S.-Iran conflict drags on, Trump in an Aug. 17 Fox News interview threatened to attack U.S. regional ally Oman if its negotiations with Iran on reopening the Strait of Hormuz were to interfere with U.S.-Iran talks on a potential peace deal.

"If Oman gets in the way, we'll bomb the s--- out of them," Trump told Fox News in an Aug. 17 phone interview, according to Trey Yingst, the network's chief foreign correspondent who talked to the president.
