President Donald Trump will meet with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani at Gracie Mansion on Sept. 21.

"The meeting will focus on issues affecting New York City and New Yorkers," Mamdani's office said

in a statement. Gracie Mansion is the official residence of NYC's mayor.

The news of their joint meeting comes after a group of six local governments led by New York City sued the Trump administration last week to block a new immigration rule over green card applications. But Trump and Mamdani have had a largely warm public relationship, including meeting at the White House last November after criticizing each other during campaign season.

"It was a productive meeting focused on a place of shared admiration and love, which is New York City and the need to deliver affordability to New Yorkers," Mamdani, then mayor-elect, said in the Oval Office. Trump, who's known for pointed insults at his political rivals, added, “I think you're going to have, hopefully, a really great mayor."

"One of the things I would have loved to be someday is the mayor of New York," Trump added. "And especially now, because I think you’re at really a turning point one way or the other. It can go great. Or it can go in a different direction, and I think you really have a chance to make it great."

Hours before their November meeting, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives passed a resolution denouncing the “horrors of socialism.” The resolution, which passed with all Republican support and 86 Democrats, was seen as a pointed jab against Mamdani.

Trump and Mamdani also met in February, and they discussed housing and the detention of a foreign Columbia University student. Mamdani has also said he and Trump have spoken privately via phone.
