Anthony Smith’s wife has released a statement after his recent arrest.

On Monday, Smith was arrested in Nebraska for an alleged domestic violence incident that produced three felony charges. Smith allegedly threatened to kill his wife and was heard shooting a gun prior to turning himself into police. He was granted a $500k bond, and as a condition of that bond, Smith was ordered to have no contact with his wife.

Smith has a court date scheduled for August 17.

On Friday, Smith’s wife addressed the situation publicly via social media for the first time. Though she kept the details to a minimum, she defends her husband’s character and is adamant that she was never put in danger by Smith.

“There’s not a lot I can say right now,” Smith’s wife wrote (h/t MMAFighting). “I love Anthony with every ounce of my being. He is a good man, a great dad, and an incredible husband who loves us endlessly. Anyone that knows him can attest to that. They made a mental health struggle into something it wasn’t. I am safe and always was safe. He would never hurt me. Ever. I called for help to protect him from himself.”

Smith has yet to publicly address the situation and remains innocent until proven guily.

Smith retired from mixed martial arts (MMA) in April 2025 following three consecutive losses inside the Octagon. Before too long, however, he signed with Jorge Masvidal’s Bare Knuckle MMA promotion as a Heavyweight. As part of their $500k tournament, Smith submitted Chase Sherman in his promotional debut (watch here) and was expected to compete again in the next round prior to his arrest.
