TSA Gold+ program launching at select US airports. Are any in Ohio?
If you travel often, you may have TSA PreCheck to skip long TSA lines and move through security checkpoints smoothly.
TSA may move closer to privatization by launching TSA Gold+ at a few airports. What
is TSA Gold+? Does Ohio have it yet? Here's what we know.
TSA Gold+ to launch at these three U.S. airports
The initiative launched in May 2026. It will be available at select airports across the United States, according to the TSA Gold+ website.
The following airports get first access to participating in the TSA Gold+ program, according to The Hill:
Charleston International Airport (South Carolina) Des Moines International Airport (Iowa) Tampa International Airport (Florida)
An exact date for the launch of the program at those three airports is expected by 2027, but there is not yet a timeline for it or when TSA Gold+ could begin servicing Ohio.
What is TSA Gold+?
According to the TSA Gold+ website, this program is "a new public-private partnership aimed at modernizing aviation security at select airports across the United States." It will expand upon the current SPP model by redirecting funds into long-term partnerships with "leading industry operators" with oversight from TSA.
Airports can opt in to TSA Gold+ to receive a tailored security screening service based on their needs and space, with support from TSA and private vendors. These improvements won't come at an additional cost to airports.
"TSA Gold+ marks a significant evolution in the agency’s approach to aviation security," the agency said. "This approach ... enhances the passenger experience while maintaining the highest levels of security."
Not everyone is in favor of TSA moving closer to privatization. Some opponents, such as the Association of Federal Government Employees, a union representing TSA agents, say TSA's main goal is to protect air travelers, while private companies focus on profit.
When will TSA Gold+ be available in Ohio?
As of now, it hasn't been announced which Ohio airports will have TSA Gold+ available.
