Hurricane Isaias path caused damage in Florida, see aftermath photos
Isaias, the first storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season made landfall in Destin, Florida, as a Category 2 with 105 mph winds − then it quickly weakened as it settled over Alabama.
Isaias made landfall
in the Florida Panhandle on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, as a powerful "Cat 2" hurricane, smashing buildings, flooding roads and homes, and taking out big chunks of power grids. As of Saturday morning, 900,000 outages have been reported, according to USA TODAY data.
Some residents may have to wait days or even weeks for their lights to come back on.
Now referred to by the National Hurricane Center in Florida as "Post-Tropical Cyclone Isaias," the former Category 3 hurricane officially formed as a tropical storm and hurricane Oct. 7, with landfall in the Gulf two days later.

In a press conference by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis at 7:30 a.m. CT Saturday, Oct. 10, the governor said there was one unconfirmed death in Escambia County, all state bridges were open, Interstate-10 and U.S. 98 highways also were open. There were no requests yet for search and rescue. By 9:30 a.m. ET Saturday, the New York Times said officials reported there were two storm-related deaths, including the one in Escambia County, Florida, and another in Birmingham, Alabama.
